Ricky Stuart slap, Michael Ennis, pre-game Canberra Raiders, history, banter, Fox league, Magic Round, news, highlights

Fox League expert Michael Ennis and Raiders coach Ricky Stuart have a history of trading barbs.

While it is all good-natured banter, Stuart took the chance to get one back on the former Sharks premiership winner in a dressing room chat prior to his side’s clash against the Raiders.

“No I will be upstairs Michael,” Stuart said while laughing.

“Good luck mate,” Ennis said reaching his arm out to shake hands.

Stuart then hilariously grabs Ennis’ hand, pulling him close to throw a Tzsyu-like shorthand jab to the ribs before swiftly tapping his cheek.

“We need that in slow-mo,” a spectator calls out from the background.

Ennis couldn’t help but break out into laughter, clearly hitting Stuart with a subtle dig prompting the combo.

Stuart and Ennis have never shied away from an on-air stoush and in 2020, the cheeky rake asked the legendary halfback a curious question in a Super Saturday pre-game interview.

“Ricky you’ve got the winter coat growing out of the collar there mate,” Ennis joked.

Stuart smiled before firing back, “you’re a d***head, Mick”.

At the time, Ennis worked as an assistant coach for the Raiders and the pair are good mates with a clear love-hate relationship.

Now Ennis has moved on from the nation’s capital, taking up a role in Brad Arthur’s coaching staff as a consultant.

We are yet to see any on-air banter between the pair, but with Ennis’ track-record it cannot be far away.
